KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah will perform the ground-breaking ceremony of the K-4 water project on June 10 for which all arrangements have been completed.

Sindh Local Government Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated this while presiding over a meeting held on Tuesday at his office.

Officials concerned, including Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Siddiqui, local government secretary Imran Atta Soomro, KMC administrator Saqib Soomro, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board managing director Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi and all administrators of six zonal municipal committees, attended the meeting.

The minister informed the meeting participants that the government had taken some steps to overcome the water crisis in Karachi, including free water supply through 3,000 water tankers to affected consumers on a daily basis.

Out of 3,000 tankers 600 are being supplied to west district, 300 to south district, 150 to central district and 50 tankers to remaining other districts.

He said that deputy commissioners of every district had been made responsible for distribution of free water tanker service to affected people while engineers of the water board had been deputed to monitor the arrangements.

The participants in the meeting also decided to continue a cleanliness drive and all district administrators would ensure cleanliness in their districts twice a week.

The minister directed the authorities to remove graffiti and wall chalking and advertisement companies should remove their ads from walls within 15 days otherwise FIRs would be registered against them.

The district local body authorities were also instructed to ensure 100 per cent tax collection in their respected districts.

The meeting participants also decided to take action against the fake mineral water companies and directed the KWSB authorities to ensure mixing of chlorine in water and directed all local body authorities to ensure removal of encroachments in their areas.

The minister directed all the local government departments to make sure that bank accounts of all employees were opened with the Sindh Bank by June 15 otherwise they would not be able to get their salary.
