RAWALPINDI: Three women were killed and another was injured after being run over by a speeding car near the Mandra police station on Monday.

Police said the women, two of them from Murree, were crossing the G.T. Road to visit an eye hospital when they were hit by the vehicle.

Police inspector Chaudhry Safdar told Dawn that Akhtar Bibi, 60, died on the spot while Fariha Sultana, 40, and Mehram Jan, 65, succumbed to their injuries at the District Headquarters Hospital.

He said the fourth woman, Nighat Bibi, 45, was injured.

The driver escaped from the scene but his car was impounded by the police and a case registered against him, he added.
