SAHIWAL: A news and feature website, with a focus on cultural and social activities of Sahiwal and about 10 surrounding districts, was launched at the Jinnah Hall here on Sunday.

The site, sahiwal.sujag.org, is a project of the Lok Sujag which wants to initiate dialogue and communication among over 3,000 social media users of the district, sensitise them to their common issues and connect them to national and international social media users.

District Coordination Officer Asif Iqbal and Punjab Minister for Ushr and Zakat Malik Nadeem Kamran launched the website.

It has a number of sections, including news, features, Panjee Mintee (Punjabi news), Boldi Kahani (Punjabi short stories), Nukta Nazar (opinion), Soojh Boojh (science), Khabar Khulasa and a section related to history.

Sabah Masood, feature editor of the website, said the national print and electronic media were focusing metropolises like Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Islamabad, Faisalabad and Multan, and district-based issues were hardly given any space.

“This perspective needs to be changed and the same is the motive of the website,” she added.

Tauqeer Mustafa of Lok Sujag there was need of a local website with focus on district and the region.
