LAHORE: The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has decided to run tubewells for 18 hours daily.

“As complaints about water shortage are rising, we will rent generators for the tube wells lacking such facility,” Wasa Managing Director Chaudhry Naseer Ahmad said in a meeting held here on Saturday.

Wasa currently operates 490 tubewells in the city. He urged directors (operations) to check the presence of tube well operators at workplaces.

Wasa vice-chairman Chaudhry Shahbaz Ahmad asked for the quick installation of more tube wells in the areas.

ACQUISITION: The Lahore Development Authority has started proceedings to acquire 1,152 kanals for three major development projects in the metropolis.

The land is being acquired under the Land Acquisition Act 1894.

According to a spokesman, 813 kanals will be acquired for an elevated expressway and allied facilities and services from Main Boulevard, Gulberg and Jail Road to Motorway.

The land being acquired is situated in mauza Ichhra, Mozang, Nawan Kot, Sandha Khurd, Shera Kot, Nonaria, Badru, Shadman Colony, Arya Nagar and Gulshan Ravi Housing Schemes. Up to 67 kanals and 9 marlas in mauza Kacha and Nungar will be acquired for a four-lane flyover over railway line on Defence Road at Kahna Kaacha. The project is being launched under public-private partnership.

The land holders concerned could file their objection over the land acquisition with the office of Land Acquisition Collector at LDA Complex in Johar Town, the spokesman added.
