SUDDENLY our media has been flooded with advertisements inviting Pakistanis to buy luxury apartments and houses in Dubai, costing Rs20m to over Rs1bn.

As our rupee is not a valid currency in Dubai, there will be a run on the dollar to buy this property. As our country is already short of foreign exchange, it will soon become bankrupted.

Moreover, that kind of spare money is not earned by even a high-income honest businessman or a landowner and can only be made by those who have drawing and disbursing power over our national budget. This shows the scale of corruption being carried on by the elite and smugglers.

I wonder if anyone has ever advertised in reverse, offering Dubai citizens bungalows in natural and human resource-rich Pakistan.
