GUJRANWALA: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) detected 107 connections stealing power and fined their owners Rs1.9 million.

Gepco Chief Executive Zahoor Ahmad Chohan said this at a meeting of officials on Thursday.

He said special squads had been established to raid and detect electricity theft.

FIA: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested two people in People’s Colony for issuing illegal medical certificates to those seeking jobs abroad on Thursday and recovered 20 passports and 50 illegal medical certificates from them.

FIA Deputy Director Malik Sikandar Hayyat told reporters the suspects had established “Capital Lab” in People’s Colony where they issued medical certificates to those seeking overseas jobs and they also treated people for hepatitis B and C.

Many people had submitted applications to the FIA against them.

The FIA arrested Nasir and Fayyaz and recovered 20 passports and 50 illegal medical certificates from them.

He said the accused were sending people abroad illegally. The suspects had taken Rs70,000 from Azam and Rs50,000 each from Liaqat and Amanat for this purpose.

HANGED: A convict was hanged till death in the central jail while the hanging of another convict was delayed for three days on Thursday.

Ejaz had killed a man in 1998. He was hanged on Thursday.

The court ordered delaying the capital punishment of Amjad who was convicted of killing a man in 2002.
