KARACHI: The Rangers claimed to have killed five gangsters for their alleged involvement in multiple murders and other heinous crimes in three shootouts in Lyari on Wednesday.

The paramilitary force conducted an intelligence-driven raid in Tughlaq Lane, Chakiwara. When a hideout of suspects was cordoned off, they opened fire and tried to escape.

The Rangers retaliated and killed two suspects, but three or four others, including one in injured condition, escaped.

But the Rangers went after them and killed two of them near Jehanabad in an “encounter”.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Jamal, Mohammed Riaz, Shakeel and Qadeer. It is said they belonged to the Arshad Pappu gang. “They were involved in more than 60 cases of killing, extortion, drug peddling and street crimes,” said a Rangers spokesperson.

Weapons and ammunition were seized on them.

Later, the Rangers claimed to have killed another gangster during the search for the fleeing criminals.

The official said when the Rangers approached a building in Chakiwara, a group of gangsters opened fire on them. During the ensuing exchange of fire, a suspect identified as Bashir alias Bagwan was killed.

“He was a close aide to Aurangzeb alias Orange of Baloch Para, and involved in more than 20 cases of killing, kidnapping for ransom, extortion and land grabbing,” he said.
