ON May 8, two days before the stenotypist test in the federal government through the NTS, I contacted the latter to ask about the test pattern outline. They replied that I would come to know about it at the examination centre.

On the day of the test, I was astonished to find that it was a multiple choice question paper comprising English, mathematics (completely non-relevant to the cadre), Pakistan Studies (partially relevant), Islamic Studies (non-relevant to the cadre) and general knowledge.

Does a stenotypist test comprise multiple choice question paper? Candidates for stenotypist posts have to appear for a shorthand/typing and computer test for recruitment. General knowledge and English may also be tested if required for short-listing.

The FPSC and PPSC give the course outline some days before the day of the test. Why can’t the NTS do the same?
