KARACHI: History was created when none of the golfers from the 125-year-old historical Karachi Golf Club (KGC) could be able to earn selection as Sindh Golf Association (SGA) named a four-member team for the Inter-association golf championship that runs alongside the Amateur Golf Championship of Pakistan at Islamabad Golf Club from May 21 to 24.
“Yes, it is for the first time that no golfer of the KGC will be representing the province,” the SGA president Asad I A Khan told Dawn while announcing the team after two-day trials on Sunday.
According to him, 17 golfers took part in the trials that were held at two venues — at the KGC on Saturday and at the Defence Authority Country and Golf Club (DACGC) on Sunday.
The DACGC golfers made their mark by grabbing three of the four places through Zohaib Asif, Waseem Rana and Karrar Hussain while the fourth was bagged by Arabian Sea Country Club (ASCC) golfer Sajid Khan.
Retired Cdre Zafar Mahmood will accompany the team as manager-cum-non playing captain.
Selected players and their scores are as follows.
146 – Zohaib Asif (DACGC) 72, 74
147 – Waseem Rana (DACGC) 74, 73
151 – Sajid Khan (ASCC) 71, 80
153 – Karrar Hussain (DACGCA) 77, 76
Reserve:
155 – Mohammad Shareef (West Wind Golf Club) 79, 76.
