ISLAMABAD: A man arrested two days ago for trespassing on the Senate Hall, at the National Assembly, was sent to jail on a 14-day judicial remand on Wednesday.

According to the FIR registered against him, the man who is a resident of Sukkur was spotted entering from the entrance reserved for senators and was questioned by the security staff. It was revealed that he was neither a senator nor had an entry pass for the building. Later, it was found that he entered the premises on a car bearing a green number plate with the words ‘Government of Pakistan’ inscribed on it. The FIR against him stated that he had disguised a private car as an official vehicle.

It was revealed that the man had entered the assembly building in the hope of meeting MNA Khurshid Shah and acquiring his support in getting a job for his brother.

Earlier, a case was registered against him on charges of PPCs 419 (punishment for cheating by impersonation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 451 (house-trespass in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment).

The secretariat police produced him in the court of a magistrate from where he was sent to jail on 14 days judicial remand, the police said.

A three members committee was also constituted by senior police officials including Assistant Inspector General of Police (operation) Dr Sultan Azam Temuri, AIG Special Branch Waqar Chohan and Superintendent of Police Secretariat Security Group Mohammad Jameel Hashmi to probe the issue.

During interrogation, it was revealed that he was a government official working at the Ministry of Industries and Production and stationed at the Utility Stores in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

It was revealed later, that his brother worked at the National Library and he used his brother’s card to enter the parliament premises. He spent some time asking around for Senator Shah but was caught trying to enter the Senate Hall.

Police officials told Dawn that he was not carrying anything suspicious and it appears that he did not have any criminal motive behind his attempt to enter the Senate Hall.
