KALAYA: Two thieves were killed and four wounded as an IED allegedly planted under household items went off with a bang in a vacated house in Zub Darra area of central Orakzai Agency on Monday.

According to an official of the political administration, a group of thieves sneaked into a vacated house in a village in Zub Darra area to steal household items. As soon as they started lifting items from one of the room an IED underneath the luggage exploded, resulting in the killing of two thieves and injuries to four others, said the official.

He said that the fleeing robbers and accomplices took the injured along with them while leaving two bodies behind.

Soon afterwards, the security forces rushed to the blast site and took the bodies into custody. The identity of the deceased was yet to be ascertained. It may be recalled that the residents of about 16 villages of Zub Darra, central Orakzai, vacated their houses some 25 days ago after security forces launched search operation against Taliban militants.

Sources said as robbers from adjoining localities usually came to Zub Darra to loot the houses, inmates might have planted IEDs beneath their household items to scare them (robbers) away.
