SABEEN Mahmud sacrificed her life for truthfulness and the rights of people. We must not forget the story of ‘Bangladesh’ and its consequences. We want freedom of expression and an environment of dialogue where people can sit and discuss and even argue about the points they feel should have different ways of solving rather than using powers for every solution.

Pakistan is already facing brain drain due to the uncertainty and worsening security conditions. In such an environment most of the good brains are leaving and trying their best to leave the country. It is our duty to promote peace and realise that the solution to different national problems cannot be targeted killings at all.

In such a situation when the country is going through a war against terrorism and conspirators are having headquarters in neighbouring countries, it is the supreme duty of security agencies to extend their extra services for such people as may think differently on some points like Sabeen Mahmud was having dialogue about the missing people of Balochistan, but very much patriotic with a positive image of Pakistan worldwide .

She was a symbol of peace and human rights, who remained fearless while spreading love and peace for everyone, while urging Pakistani authorities to look after public security more than the arrangements of ‘political public gatherings’.

AFTER hearing about the tragic shooting of Sabeen Mahmud, I was devastated. I had visited T2F several times and had heard her speak and seen her interact with the people who visited her establishment.

She did something inspirational by establishing a place where any voice could be raised and heard, and where people often went to be moved by the rich talents and ideas of the citizens of Karachi. I would be indebted if you would dedicate a section of your newspaper (perhaps in the Metro section) to accommodate the outpouring of the city’s grief, and the tributes that people would no doubt love to pay to her.
