LAHORE: The PML-N, the PTI and independent candidates bagged on Saturday most of the seats in the Cantonment boards elections in Punjab.

The elections were held in a peaceful manner.

The PPP could not field candidates in all cantonment seats. Those who got tickets failed, especially in Lahore, and did not bother to run their campaign effectively.

PPP central Punjab President Manzoor Wattoo said: “These elections do not reflect the popularity of parties because of typical demographics of the cantonment areas. The local bodies’ elections (going to be held in this September) will be a real yardstick to determine the standing of the parties among the people”.

LAHORE: As per unofficial results of Local Government election held in wards of Lahore Cantonment Board and Lahore Walton Board (LWB), candidates of the PML-N notched most of the seats.

Of the 20 seats, 10 seats went to the PML-N and six to the PTI.

In LWB, Haji Ashfaq was elected from Ward 1, Qari Muhammad Hanif Ward 2, Faqeer Hussain Ward 4, Akram Sohal Ward 5, Chaudhry Sajjad Ahmad Ward 6, Chaudhry Tahir Hameed Ward 7 and Khalid Ahmad from Ward 10. They contested on PML-N tickets.

PTI’s Rasheed Ahmad, Faisal Awan, Raja Shahzad and Taimoor Akhtar were elected from Ward 3, Ward 4, Ward 5 and Ward 6 of the LCB. Naeem Shahzad, Rana Muhammad Jafar and Shahzad Bhatti of the PML-N were elected from Ward 2, Ward 10 and Ward 9.

GUJRAT: The ruling PML-N suffered a defeat in the Kharian Cantonment board as both seats were won by the opposition backed candidates.

Independent candidate Chaudhary Naseer Haider who had the backing of PML-Q, Jamaat-i-Islami and PPP won the seat by securing 598 votes.

In ward 2, PTI’s Masood Chohan got 569 votes defeating PML-N’s Akram Bhatti .

JHELUM: PML-N candidates Raja Wajid and Imran Bashir won the seat.

SAHIWAL: Of the five seats, four were won by independent candidates at Okara cantonment board election.

The winners are: Nadeem Anwar, Muhammad Akram, Maqbool Ahmed, Chaudhry Akhtar Hameed and Shazad Shafi.

SIALKOT: The PML-N won four seats, of the five seats. The PTI bagged the fifth.

The PML-N winning candidates are: Zahid Nadeem Shamsi, Malik Waheed Ahmed, Mushtaq Ahmed Qadri and Atif Muneer. Syed Ahmed Raza of the PTI got the fifth seat.

TOBA TEK SINGH: In the Shorkot cantonment board elections, independent candidates Amjad Farooq, Khalid Hameed, Atif Ghaffar, Zafar Iqbal and Abdul Haq won the seatss.

BAHAWALPUR: All three seats in the Bahawalpur cantonment board elections were won by independent candidates.

They are Rehan Bin Javed, Mehboob Ahmed and Master Khan Muhammad Sial.

SARGODHA: Of the 10 seats of Sargodha cantonment board, four seats were won by the PML-N , two by PTI and the remaining four by independents candidates.

The winning candidates are: Malik Muhammad Ashraf Awan, Bilal Khalid Warraich, Raja Shahzad Anwar and Syed Irfan Muzimal (PML-N), Muhammad Arshad and Asif Kahilon (PTI), Umer Farooq, and Rao Junaid Ali, Chaudhry Tauqir Ashraf and Mian Nadeem (independent).

MULTAN: Independent candidates bagged five, of the 10 seats. PML-N’s Rana Muhammad Ashraf won Ward No 1. In Ward 2, independent candidate Muhammad Aslam won the seat. In Ward 3, Chaudhry Tariq Niaz of the PML-N was elected unopposed. In Ward 4, Saeed Moni of the PTI bagged the seat . In Ward No 5, Chaudhry Khalid Asad of the PML-N, in Ward 6 Muhammad Yaqoob of the PTI, in Ward 7, independent candidate Humayun Akbar, and in Ward 8, independent candidate Khurshid Ahmed Khan won the seats.

In Ward 9 and 10 independent candidates Shamshad Ali Khan and Zaghaim Tayyab were declared successful.
