RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz workers resorted to firing in jubilation to celebrate their victory in Westridge which sparked panic in the area forcing the police officials to rush to the scene.

The city police officer had warned the citizens against the practice and reiterated that whosoever was found firing into the air or using fire crackers will be arrested.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had also ordered the police across the province to arrest those who are firing in jubilation.

The district election commission has taken notice of the firing and sought report from the returning officer and the city police officer, Rawalpindi.

When contacted, district election commissioner Nadeem Zuabir confirmed that he had sought a report of te incident.

“The CPO had sent the DSP and SHO to the area of firing,” the district election commissioner said and added: “The election commissioner has to take notice of celebratory firing whether it is done by a political worker or any political party.”  

A spokesman for the police claimed that the police had arrested the accused involved in the celebratory firing and recovered the weapon from him.
