KARACHI: Election will be held in only one of the two wards of Cantonment Board Korangi Creek (CBKC) on Saturday when 15,933 voters will elect their councillor from the 12 candidates in the run for the seat.

There are 18,187 registered voters in the two wards of the cantonment board. Of them, 2,254 voters reside in ward II, where elections are not being held, because the only nomination form submitted in the ward was rejected.

The election commission will be asked to hold the election in the ward later.

In ward-I, 20 candidates had filed their nomination papers for the councillor’s seat but the papers of eight of them were rejected. The remaining 12 candidates are in the run for the seat.

Eight polling stations have been set up in ward-I for 15,933 registered voters.

The PAF Base Korangi Creek commander is the CBKC president who nominates two members besides the two elected councillors. All the four councillors have a single vote while the president has two votes. The CBKC chief executive officer is Lateef Marri who will act as the board secretary.

Cantonment Board Malir

Some 29,661 registered voters — 16,264 men and 13,397 women — will cast their votes on Saturday to elect three councillors to sit on the Cantonment Board Malir.

As many as 18 polling stations have been set up and the number of polling booths is 68 out of which 35 are for men and 33 are for women.

The Malir Cantonment Station Commander (Army) is the president of the CBM who nominates three members of the board besides the three elected councillors.

Both the CBKC and CBM are category-III cantonment boards. The categories are based on population size and revenue of the cantonment boards.
