Karachi ATC sentences five convicts to 25 years in prison

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court on Tuesday sentenced five individuals to 25 years of collective imprisonment each, under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, including section 353.
Section 353 relates to 'assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty'.
The convicts ─ whose names are Irfan alias 'unit in-charge', Shahabuddin, Shehzad, Farhan alias Faisal, and Naseer alias DSP ─ are guilty of setting a police mobile on fire and shooting at policemen in 2010 in Shah Faisal Colony.
Investigators claim the convicts are affiliated with a political party.

Too light punishment for such heinous crimes--when you burn a police vehicle, death of few people are foreseeable even if not done in the act. They should have been prosecuted for murder and punished accordingly.

When the operaton in Karachi started it was decided that a criminal is a criminal and his/her political or religious affiliation should not be brought up during the process. It is time media adhere to the policy of not sensationalizing the news. Didn't IK free his workers from Police Mobiles during the dharna in Islamabad? 5-10 saal to banta hai! but that was not Karachi so no punishment.
