KHAR: The Levies force on Saturday foiled a sabotage bid and defused a missile planted near their checkpost in Mamond tehsil here on Saturday.

A local administration official said that the Levies personnel spotted the missile planted along the boundary wall of the checkpost in Omari area.

He said that a Levies team along with bomb disposal squad personnel reached the spot and defused the missile.

According to the official, at least seven personnel of Levies force were present at the post when the missile was spotted.

Local people said that unidentified miscreants had escaped the scene after planting the missile near the checkpost.

The local administration official said that it had been decided to take further security measures for the protection of Levies posts across the agency.

Meanwhile, the local administration arrested several people during a search operation conducted in various localities near the checkpost.

A senior official confirmed the detention of a number of persons in the area, and claimed that crackdown against the people was meant to trace the miscreants responsible for planting the missile along the boundary wall of the Levies post.
