HYDERABAD: Mr Fakhr Matri, President of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors called upon the authorities of Radio Pakistan to broadcast a Gujrati programme specially for Hyderabad and Karachi, which have a large number of Gujrati knowing people. He said Gujrati should be encouraged by the Government like other regional languages as it was rich in literature. He was delivering [the] presidential address at the Gujrati Mushaira held at Sachal Sarmast College, Hyderabad, under the auspices of the Gujrati Society of the College.

Mr Matri appealed to well-to-do people to help Gujrati poets so that the language could get its right place. He proposed that an international Gujrati mushaira should be held in Karachi in which Gujrati poets from all over the world should participate and make rich contributions to the language.

[Meanwhile, as reported by agencies from Muzaffarabad], there is strong resentment and indignation among the people of the Kashmir Valley against the cancellation of the endorsements on Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah and his party’s passports, says a report received here from across the ceasefire line. Despite the imposition of Section 144, hartals and demonstrations are being held in all the important towns all over the Valley. The people openly condemn the Indian authorities for their unwarranted action against the Kashmiri leader. A resolution was passed by the Action Committee at Srinagar recently warning the Indian Government of the grave consequences, the report adds.
