KARACHI: A number of young and upcoming boxers displayed their talent by winning their respective bouts on the opening day of the DMC South Shouhada Army Public School Peshawar Junior Boxing Championship here on Friday.
The event will see approximately forty contests and is being held at the Ali Mohammad Qambrani Stadium in Kakri Ground, Lyari.
In the 34kg contest, Zeeshan Ahmed outplayed Tabish Ali 2-1 while in the 36kg category, Maula Bakhsh beat Sameer 2-1 while Ilyas outpointed Nabeel Ahmed 3-0. In the 38kg category, Naimatullah beat Bilaal while Shahzeb outclassed Aijaz Khan.
In the 40kg too, some exciting bouts were witnessed when Mohammad Ismail beat Irfan Ali 3-0 and Majid Ali thrashed Sanaullah 3-0.
Winning their fight also were Mohammad Husain and Sajid Rasheed as well who beat Abu Huraira and Anees Qambrani by identical margins of 3-0 respectively.
Earlier, chief guest Commisssioner Karachi Shoaib Siddiqui inaugurated the event and said that nations do not forget their heroes and those who sacrificed their lives for it and “we are all here to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Peshawar school tragedy.”
He said it is the duty of everyone to rid the society and the country of the menace of terrorism, adding sports can play a major role in uniting the nation as well as inspiring the young generation to feature in healthy activities.
Lauding the efforts of DMC South in sports promotion, the commissioner praised Municipal Commissioner Mohammad Raeesi and Director Sports Asif Azeem and others for their untiring efforts to organise this event. Sindh Boxing Association secretary Abid Brohi was also present on the occasion.
