LANDI KOTAL: Students of private educational institutions in Landi Kotal on Saturday protested the arrest of a 10th grader by the local political administration under the Collective Territorial Clause of the Frontier Crimes Regulation.

Holding black flags and shouting slogans against the administration, protesters marched on various roads from Zakria Masjid to the press club.

Muaarif Shinwari and Abuzar Shinwari, who led the protest, said the arrest of their schoolmate, Maaz Khan, was unlawful and unjustified and that he missed annual matriculation examination due to arrest.

They claimed the administration had yet to fulfil the promise of freeing the student.

The protesters warned they would boycott classes and block the Peshawar-Torkham Road if their schoolmate was not freed until Monday.

The administration arrested Maaz Khan and put him behind bars over a clash with activists of Bazaar-Zakhakhel peace committee three weeks ago.

Also in the day, the khasadar personnel foiled the contraband smuggling bid at the Bhagiyari checkpost.

They recovered seven kilogrammes of opium and charas each from the hidden cavities of a car during inspection.

The vehicle’s driver was also taken into custody.
