DERA GHAZI KHAN: Gaddai police registered a case on Wednesday against two people for obstructing the working of three Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) employees and thrashing them.

Police said a Mepco team consisting of Jahanian Shah, Abid Hussain and Hafiz Irshad were held hostage as well as thrashed by wheat grinding mill owner Rasheed Ahmad and Shafeeq. The team had raided the unit to check power theft.

Mepco sub-divisional officer Obaidullah Khosa arrived at the scene and got his colleagues released. On his report, Gaddai police arrested Rasheed and Shafeeq under sections 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 379 (punishment for theft), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 462 (punishment for same offence when committed by person entrusted with custody) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
