KARAK: The two factions of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam have decided to jointly contest the upcoming local government elections in Karak district.

A decision to this effect was made at a meeting held here the other day. Leaders of both the JUI-F and JUI-S were in attendance.

The participants said that PML-N, ANP and PPP would also be contacted in this regard to contest the elections from a joint platform.

The meeting was attended by JUI-F district president Hafiz Ibn-i-Ameen, general secretary Maulana Zahoor Ahmad and former provincial minister Mian Nisar Gul, while JUI-S was represented by its central deputy general secretary Maulana Shah Abdul Aziz and district president Maulana Sabz Ali.

The participants said that the two parties would be part of a four-party alliance, including PPP, ANP and PML-N, to give tough time to the ruling PTI in the local government elections in the district. They said that seat to seat adjustment would be made in the elections.

On the occasion, former MNA Maulana Shah Abdul Aziz said that proper consultations would be initiated with the PML-N provincial general secretary Rehmat Salam Khattak, ANP leaders Khursheed Khattak and Sharif Khattak and leaders of the local rights organisations.

He welcomed the alliance of the religio-political parties at the district level and said that the alliance would sweep the local bodies elections in the district.

Mr Aziz resolved to take all the political parties along and asked the leaders to take pragmatic decisions aimed at people’s welfare.
