RAWALPINDI: Young doctors on Tuesday observed a strike in three government-run hospitals in the garrison city and staged a protest outside Benazir Bhutto Hospital on Murree Road to demand implementation of service structure.

Young Doctors Association (YDA) had given the call for a strike and protests across the province. Over 100 doctors from three government-run hospitals in the garrison city, Holy Family Hospital (HFH), Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) and District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, participated in the protest.

The protesters carried placards inscribed with slogans and blocked Murree Road for over two hours. Initially, they blocked both sides of the road however, after seeing long queues of traffic, they decided to block the side in front of the hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, YDA BBH President Dr Haider Akhter asked the provincial government to increase the number of paid seats for postgraduate trainees, improve the service structure for promotion and services, induction of doctors in Basic Pay Scale-18, increase the pay of young doctors and provide security to doctors.

The patients at the outpatient departments at the hospital faced immense difficulties because of the strike as no other doctors were available to attend to them.
