SUKKUR: Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Islamuddin Shaikh has described the Muttahida Qaumi Movement as a linguistic party, and alleged that the party has always hatched conspiracies against Sindh.

Speaking at a reception hosted for him by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Dr Arshad Mughal at a local hotel on Sunday evening, he alleged that the MQM was serving vested interests for benefits.

He strongly criticised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for being only a pro-Punjab leader and always causing losses to Sindh to help Punjab flourish.

He also lambasted Federal Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali for having adopted a “discriminatory attitude” towards Sindh and Sindhis, claiming that on his directives electricity supply to whole villages was discontinued to recover dues from a few defaulters.

Even the transformer of the entire area used to be removed to punish consumers for the next several days.

He described as unfair such an attitude with hundreds of people paying their electricity bills regularly and promptly.

Senator Sheikh told the audience that he was elected to the upper house twice as an independent candidate before being awarded a PPP ticket for two consecutive terms.

Recalling his election campaigns as an independent candidate, he remarked that people participated in the electioneering events and used his vehicles but voted for his rival PPP candidate.

He said that when he was contesting elections against the PPP, the people used to enjoy meals provided by him and travel on his vehicles but give votes to PPP-backed candidates.

Senator Sheikh promised to get the people of Sukkur a development package and work for the removal of encroachments from across the city to provide relief to the general public.

Former MPA and PPP’s district chief Haji Anwar Khan Mahar, Dr Arshad Mughal, Shafqat Mirani, Kumail Hyder Shah, Aijaz Baloch, Mushtaq Surhio, Khadim Malik, Qamar Khoso and Mujahid Khoso also spoke.
