KHAR: Unidentified attackers shot dead an elder of Barang tribe in a remote area of Bajaur Agency on Sunday.

Officials and local people said that Mian Gul Noor was going home from a nearby village when gunmen opened fire on him.

He received serious bullet injuries and died on way to hospital. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack. The officials, however, said that personal enmity could be behind the incident.

DISPUTE RESOLVED: Khar Islahi Jirga settled a 12 year-old dispute between two rival groups in Khar town on Sunday.

In this connection, a ceremony was held here that was attended by workers of political parties, members of the jirga and elders of the rival groups.

The enmity between the Khan Bahadar and Sher Bahadar groups had claimed a number of lives from both sides over last 12 years.

Elders of both the groups forgave each other and took oath that they would live like brothers in future.

They promised to forget all bitterness of the past for the bright future of their young generation. They said that they did not expect that a row over a piece of land could push them into a deadly clash.

Said Ahmed Jan, chairman of the Islahi jirga, said that the jirga initiated its efforts several months ago and held several meetings with leaders of both the sides to resolve the dispute.

He said that settlement of the dispute was a great success for his organisation. He called upon the people to resolve their disputes through peaceful means.

He said that disputes and enmities not only disturbed peace and friendly environment in the region but also affected socio-economic condition of the agency.

He claimed that 23 disputes had been resolved by the jirga during last six months.
