KARACHI: Formidable Army and Wapda will take on each other in Sunday’s final after the two outfits won their one-sided semi-finals in the fifth Kashmir Cup Basketball Champion­ship at the KPT Sports Complex wooden court on Saturday.

The soldiers, who topped group A, lived up to their billing by getting the better of Police 55-23 in the first semi-final. The winners led 32-11 at half time. Khalid Mahmood and Badar caught the eye with their brisk scoring and finished with 17 and 16 respectively. Javed contributed nine for the winners. Ali Raza top scored with 15 for Policemen while AnthonyVictor scored six.

Group B champions Wapda tore Navy defence to post a commendable 90-57 victory and set a date with Army in the final. The winners led 46-26 at breather and maintained the same pace in the last two quarters.

Falak Farid and Muzammil equally shared 44 points amongst themselves and were ably supported by Adeel Raza and M. Shan 14 and 11 respectively.

Nazakat’s solo 24 could not save his team from defeat. Anas Khan scored 13.

In morning, Wapda got the better of Sindh Reds 66-48 in their last group match to complete their league engagements. The winners led 34-18 at half time.

The final between Army and Wapda will be played on Sunday at 4pm.
