TOBA TEK SINGH: District and Sessions Court Judge Muhammad Yar Wallana handed down on Thursday death sentence to Noor Muhammad of Chak 392-JB for killing his wife.

The judge also ordered him to pay Rs200,000 as compensation to heirs to deceased.

According to the prosecution, Noor had axed to death his wife, Sakina Bibi, on Dec 27, 2014, over a domestic dispute.

DCO: District Coordination Officer (DCO) Waqas Alam showed dissatisfaction on Thursday over the slow registration of brick kilns and workers by the social security department.

During a meeting with representatives of brick kiln workers, owners and labour and social security departments’ officials, the DCO directed the officials to expedite the registration of kilns and workers so that workers could get benefit of health facilities from social security department’s hospitals.

On a complaint, Mr Alam assured that mobile phone companies would be asked to raise salary of their security guards as notified by the provincial government.

PROTEST: A protest by lecturers and other contract staff of government commerce colleges continued on the 11th consecutive day on Thursday in Kamalia and Gojra.

They boycotted classes and staged a sit-in.

Commerce college lecturers Shahbaz Husain, Abdul Rehman Punni, Hafiz Abdul Sattar and others announced that till the service structure was not approved by the Punjab Higher Education Department and their salaries were not paid equal to other teaching staff of colleges, they would continue protest.
