OKARA: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) No-3 judge in Lahore sentenced a mosque prayer leader to five years imprisonment on Wednesday for distributing hate literature among the people.

Muhammad Ishaq, a prayer leader in a city mosque and also affiliated with a banned organisation, was arrested by City-A Division police in January.

ATC Court No 3 Judge Haroon Latif handed down the sentence on Wednesday.

Convict Ishaq is in the Sahiwal Central Jail.

KILLED: Police registered two murder cases against as many men for killing their wives on Wednesday.

In village 40/4L, Mustafa allegedly strangled his wife, Kausar Bibi. Police said Mustafa wanted to marry a woman of his village, so he strangled Kausar and informed her family that she had suddenly died.

The parents took the body to home for burial.

District Police Officer (DPO) Faisal Rana was alerted by some anonymous caller about the suspicious death, and on his instruction, Shahbor police seized the body and registered a case.

In the second incident, the family of deceased Samina took her body to the DPO office after they found marks of torture on the body.

Police registered a case on their complaint against Khurram Shahhzad, husband of Samina, and his mother.

According to the first information report, Samina, a resident of Arifwala, was married to Khurram, of village 1/4L, five months ago.

Okara Sadar police said Khurram had killed Samina for he suspected that she had an affair. Later, he informed about the death of Samina to his in-laws, who live in Arifwala.

The family took the body to Arifwala, where just before the burial, they noticed marks of torture on the body.

They took the body to the Okara DPO office and told police about the suspicious circumstances of the death.

On the directions of the DPO, Sadar police registered a case against Khurram Shahzad and his mother Basheeran Bibi.

Model School: The University of Education (UoE) syndicate has approved the University Model School (UMS) for Okara after two-year efforts. Its building is on the UoE Okara sub-campus.

Syndicate member MPA Mian Muhammad Munir said at the inaugural ceremony of the UMS on Wednesday that the UoE Okara sub-campus disciplines had been shifted to its news building on GT Road.

The MPA protested that some parliamentarians had planned to change the route of the main road leading to the UoE’s new campus. He asked DCO Kaiser Saleem to take stock of the situation in the interest of students.

DCO Kaiser Saleem said people must cooperate with the government in the enrolment campaign which is 79pc at present.

Earlier, Okara campus UoE director/UMS principal Prof Dr Khalid Saleem said the Oxford syllabus would be taught in the institute and the fresh admission had been started.
