KARACHI: Favourite five-year-old bay horse Hot Man powered to a magnificent six-length victory while landing The Pakistan Day Cup in style in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

The 60 to 100 public fancy horse set the pace right from the word go and kicked his speed in the home stretch to get the better of five-year-old chestnut horse Gold City. Four-year-old chestnut filly Loyal Lady had to be content with third place, beaten by a neck while filly Sensational completed the frame finishing a further half length away among six starters.

The triumph enabled the owner-trainer-rider trio — Mohammad Sumair, Shahid Mannan and Sohail Ahmed — to steal limelight with a back-to-back double.

In an earlier race, Hot Man’s stable mate colt Kick delighted horse racing fraternity defeating 11-year-old chestnut horse Lava Man by three-quarter-of-a-length. In a closely-fought race, mare Meri Sahiba seized third place, beaten by three-quarter-of-a-length with bay horse Rytham completing the board after being edged by distance.

Another fancy filly Honey Queen was on song when she beat mare Snow Fairy by distance to make it two wins on the trot with champion rider Mohammad Essa astride in the fifth and last race. Tejori and Lacoste followed the two in same order.

Earlier, the field was reduced to six following the withdrawal of Countach before the race.

At the outset, rider Zaki Zakir piloted filly Rubai home by three lengths to land the opener. She beat same connection horse and public fancy colt Postal Address for the honours.

In the next, bay horse Shahzad Love upset the applecart imposing to two lengths victory over mare Dream Girl as Live Long finished third ahead of favourite Grey Song.

Meanwhile, the next Gymkhana race meeting will be held on Saturday.
