MANSEHRA: Ten members of a family, including six women, were killed and four others sustained critical injuries when a passenger jeep plunged into a deep ravine in Sanggura area of Balakot here on Friday.

The family was on way back to their village after receiving a relative from Islamabad airport. The vehicle met the fatal accident when driver while negotiating a sharp turn lost control over the steering.

After the accident, police and local people rushed to the spot and pulled the bodies and injured from the ravine. The dead and injured were shifted to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, Mohammad Riaz, in-charge of the police reporting centre at the hospital, told reporters. He added that one of the injured, a woman, Bibi Munahil, was referred to Ayub Medial Complex in Abbottabad where her condition was stated to be critical.

Mohammad Sajjad, who was one of the injured, told reporters at the hospital that the entire family had gone to Islamabad to receive Dilnawaz, who had returned from Saudi Arabia after performing umra. But, on return their jeep met a fatal accident, killing ten members of his family and injuring four others, he added.

The dead were named Mohammad Shahzad, his wife Shameem, Mehroofun Nisar, his daughter Noreeen BIibi, Mohammad Bashir, his sister Saima, Mohammad Jamil, Mohammad Jawad, his daughter Maida Bibi and Bibi Kausar. The injured included Mohammad Sajjad, Dilnawaz, Mohammad Waseem and Bibi Munahil.

Balakot police registered FIR into the accident and began further investigations.
