KARACHI: Dollar East, Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Medicam as well as Nadra secured victories in the weather-hit opening round matches in the Patron’s Trophy (Grade-II) Cricket Tournament on Wednesday.

Dollar East made up for first day’s washed out at the LCCA Ground in Lahore by handing Face Fresh a crushing defeat by an innings and 89 runs on the third and final day of the Group ‘D’ fixture.

Spinner Amjad Manzoor starred with match figures of eight for 88.

KPT sealed a 10-wicket victory over newcomers Brighto Paints at the Sheikhupura Stadium. Spinner Nabeel Malik grabbed 6-42 in the second innings of the Group ‘C’ match.

Medicam humbled Saudi Cricket International by innings and 15 runs in the Group ‘A’ fixture at the UBL Sports Complex with Mohammad Salman and Arif Khan taking 15 wickets between them.

Nadra overwhelmed Humak Engineering by 10 wickets in their Group ‘B’ tie at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad but the game between Pakistan Army and Omar Associates at the Army Cricket Ground in the neighbouring Rawalpindi where Mohammad Amir was due to launch his comeback to competitive cricket.

Amir, the Pakistan fast bowler who was banned for his role in the spot-fixing saga during the Lord’s Test of the 2010 series, waited impatiently along with his Omar Associates team-mates for the weather to improve but to avail.

In other matches, K-Electric took first-innings points in the drawn game against Pakistan Navy at the RLCA Gulberg Ground, while Pakistan Customs also took points against Sindh Police at the NBP Sports Complex.

The second round of matches starts from Friday.
