NEW YORK: As heavy snow continued to fall in New York a plane skidded off a runway at New York’s LaGuardia Airport while landing during a winter storm on Thursday, shutting down the airport, officials said.

Initially, there were no reports of injuries.

New York and New Jersey were in the eye of the storm as the Jersey Governor Chris Christie cautioned people to stay off the roads.

A winter storm warning is in effect for most of the state until the night time. The National Weather Service said 4 to 8 inches of snow are likely in the southern two-thirds of the state with slightly less in northern New Jersey.
