KARACHI: The anti-narcotics force on Wednesday claimed to have seized 4.8 tonnes of hashish (charas) worth Rs4.8 billion in the city.

The ANF Karachi carried out an intelligence based operation at an area situated near Bismillah Market, Sabzimandi, on the Superhighway and seized 4.8 tonnes of hashish.

According to the spokesperson, the hashish was hidden in a hole dug up in the bushes at a deserted place.

The drugs were stuffed in 96 plastic sacks each containing 50kg of drugs. As per preliminary reports, the drug consignment was brought from Balochistan and was placed at a site for handover to some other narcotics gang.

It was reportedly intended to be transported to Karachi for local consumption as well as smuggling to some foreign location across the sea, the official added.

An FIR has been registered at the ANF police station concerned and further investigations are under way.
