KHAIRPUR: Students of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Z.A. Bhutto campus, on Wednesday boycotted the ongoing mid-term exams, forcibly stopped operation of point-buses and took out a rally to condemn alleged manhandling of a student by a teacher in classroom.

Leading the protesters, who marched from the campus to the local press club raising slogans against the teacher and the university administration, activists of several student unions demanded action against the teacher.

The activists told journalists that the teacher first made insulting remarks against the student, Sahib Ali Bhand, and then beat him up during the class. They said a complaint was lodged with the campus pro-vice chancellor in writing but no disciplinary action was being taken against the errant teacher.

A spokesman for the Z.A. Bhutto campus, however, said that no such incident involving any teacher had taken place and, as such, student activists repeatedly approaching the administration with the complaint had been advised every time not to disturb the academic environment and the ongoing exam process.

Appropriate measures were being taken to ensure a smooth and peaceful holding of the exams and classes on the campus, the spokesman added.
