ISLAMABAD: The notification for the establishment of a new police station was issued on Tuesday by the senior superintendent of police.

The new police station Khanna would serve areas which previously came under the jurisdiction of Shahzad Town police including Islamabad Expressway, Faizabad, Zia Masjid, Shakrial, Margalla Town, Main Murree Road and other neighbouring areas.

According to police sources, the proposal to create three more police stations, Shamas Colony, Faizabad and Karachi Company, was also sent to the chief commissioner.

Soon after the notification was issued, Chaudhry Saddique was appointed Station House Officer (SHO) for the newly-established Khanna police station.

The existing building of the Khanna police post will be used for the police station and renovation work is underway.

Senior Superintendent of Police Mir Vaiz Niaz told Dawn the new police station would work under the supervision of the Shahzad Town police station until the renovation is complete.

“Barracks, offices for the SHO, investigation officer, moharar and reporting rooms are being constructed. Work is likely to be completed within a month,” he added.

He said the SHO had been deputed to supervise the renovation work.

Police officials told Dawn that the new police station had been established keeping the sharp rise in the population of the area in view.

They said newcomers to the city were settling in large numbers in the areas which come under the jurisdiction of the newly-established police station and there was also a sharp rise in the crime rate including burglaries, robberies, extortion and car-theft.

Police officials said crime was also on the rise in Shamas Colony, Faizabad and Karachi Company where new police stations were proposed.
