RAWALPINDI: Ambassador of Tajikistan Sherali S. Jononov has said Pakistan would get 1,000 megawatt (MW) electricity under the Central Asia South Asia electricity transmission trade project (CASA1000 project) in 2017, however, his country has the potential to provide another 1,000MW to Pakistan on cheaper rates.

He stated this during his visit to Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) on Tuesday.

The chamber’s president, Syed Asad Mashadi, and other members were also present on the occasion.

The Tajik envoy said his country was eager to enhance bilateral trade with Islamabad, adding that Pakistani Kinno, mango and textile could get a huge response in Tajikistan.

Mr Jononov urged the Pakistani business community to actively participate in exhibitions and fairs in Tajikistan and introduce their products.

Speaking on the occasion, RCCI President Syed Asad Mashadi said besides energy both countries should enhance relations in other sectors too. He said the current trade volume between the two countries was a mere $9 million which was far behind the potential both countries had.

He stressed the need to improve road and air link between the two countries and also highlighted the importance of direct interaction of the business communities of both countries.
