No doubt these are wise words. But menace of deforestation and soil erosion is not restricted to Sindh nor to just our coastal areas. It is a problem of huge magnitude present throughout all our homeland. Pakistan is loosing fast its tree cover and is becoming bald. So without trees and forest soon it will have no wild life. There will be more and more floods more erosion and more desertification . There are many fold threats to forest cover but most important is population explosion. Then there is negligent attitude of our successive governments. I will share my observation about Islamabad. Ten years ago I arrived here from Lahore. There was apparent difference between two cities. I felt that air was cleaner here and sky was more transparent. If you all day roamed on bike your shirt did not get as dirty as it used to be in Lahore. But in past ten years here lot of felling have been done. All around Shakar Parian many eatries have been established by clearing forest cover. Then metro grid making site have further reduced tree cover. I don't know who have permitted establishment of Margalla , Ramada , Best Western , Wapda guest house and Pak China friendship centre. But I know these and many other projects have eaten away some finest trees of our capital city. This all damage is done to Shakar Parian despite the fact that it is a preserved area and is part of Margala Hill National Park. Then there is a population surge of immigrated people and an abundant increase in vehicular traffic. Islamabad now have more smoke and more particulate matter in its air. If we do not take urgent measures to save forest in Islamabad soon it will be a wilderness full of people.
