KARACHI: Shahmir Danish of CAS School became the fastest 11-year-old athlete in Karachi en route to being named the best sprinter at the Karachi Juniors Athletics Championship.

Having won the boys’ 100m race, Shahmir broke his school’s U13 record in the 200m with a time of 29.13 seconds to claim the best sprinter award at the event organised by the Sindh Track and Field Club at the National Coaching Centre on Saturday.

Shahmir’s school-mate Salwa Farid won the best girl sprinter when she won the 200m and the 400m races in the championship which saw participation from over 180 young athletes across 17 junior schools in the city.

Despite breaking her school’s U13 record in the 400m with a time of 1 minute, 21.75 seconds, Salwa was trumped by Alina Humayun who was the fastest 11-year-old girl of the city by winning the 100m event.
