LAHORE: Enjoying his low placing in the handicap, bay horse No Way came with a timely challenge under riding boy Shafqat to win the feature event during the 26th Lahore Winter Meeting at the rain-wet Racecourse here on Sunday.

The Shahid Hussain-owned No Way, trained by Haji Abid Mahmood, beat bay colt Dreaming High by about two lengths with chestnut Lucky Winner Again a further two lengths away to third place.

No Way’s victory raised many an eyebrow because the son of Dubai Addition ran off the frame last Sunday and taking this in to account the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards ordered an enquiry in to his in-and-out running.

Stewards Sheikh Sajjad Hassan and Masud Pervez also took up the pending enquiry in to the wilful losing the race by jockey M. Jameel while riding bay horse Sahil when he finished a dismal third on Feb 15.

Sahil won the day’s fifth race by seven lengths falsifying Jameel’s notion of his mount’s missing the jump out that day. Sahil took a neat start in today’s races and went on to win in front-running style.

Jockey M. Hanif and the riding boy Shafqat shared the day’s racing honours bringing home a brace of winners each. Hanif rode home Sahil and Jeevan while Shafqat steered Danish Prince and No Way to end the day in a blaze of glory.

Dawn’s tipped three horses-Princess Resham (first race), Sahil (fifth) and Jeevan (seventh} while three horses tipped to upset – Kali Ghata (third race), Magic King (fourth) and No Way (sixth) won in a card of seven races.

Danish Prince tipped for a place won the second race.
