KARACHI: Indigenous and intricate craftsmanship defined concluding day of the TDAP fashion show on Friday evening, as both local and foreign buyers, fashionistas and the media flocked to the venue to witness glamazons walk down the ramp in classic and elegant designer wear.

Opening the day was the folklore capsule collection by Huma Adnan’s FnkAsia in which newsprint skirts of varying lengths and flared pants were paired with beaded embroidery tops and others in shades like neon yellow, besides full-length front open coats with sherwani collars, gold mosaic-print fused with folk colours and pleated twill, silks, georgettes and chiffons. Singer Zara Haider was the show-stopper in this segment.

Handmade silk thread crochet has now made a comeback on the fashion runway, thanks to the single-handed efforts of fashion label Delphi that showed a collection of figure-hugging tunics, cocktail dresses, chic coats jazzed up by sequins, pearls, Swarovski crystals and beaten metal.

The TDAP Mix featured Sadaf Malaterre’s classic Western cuts and silhouettes in shades of lime green, Aahan’s complimenting cuts embellished with tea party china as well as flora and fauna impressions, YBQ’s voluminous ethnic fabric shirts in gritty tones brought together at the waist and accessorised by riding gear, Goddess of Sand by Nauman Arfeen comprising blacks, fawns in raw silks and jacquard fabrics with hints of lavender. The fine needlecraft and beadwork elevated the overall appeal of the collection by quite a few notches as did his take on harem pants.

The Lahore-based Pakistan Institute of Fashion & Design showcased the select works of two students — Harris Masood’s Dear Dorothy brought to light the pop culture icons and was based on Dorothy Gale of the original The Wonderful Wizard of Oz fame, and Hassan Riaz’s Affrontement Avec L’ Agony with its restraining face masks, belts and buckles. The works were witnessed earlier at the Telenor Fashion Weekend in Lahore.

Zainab Chottani showed bling on beige with French lace trimming, bolero jackets and worn over cigarette pants, Arsalan Iqbal’s street art and spray-paint graffiti inspired prints and Faraz Mannan’s heavy bridals culminated the capsule collection.

Bahaar by Nida Azwer featured tunics, kurtas and angharkas besides shirts and breezy summer jackets in a floral patterns and colour spectrum of yellows, blues and pinks in organza, silks, net, chiffon, cotton net and masuri with digital embroidery, crystals, zardozi and threadwork.

Zahid Khan of Kuki Concepts showed his Maulana Rumi-inspired Sufi menswear and women’s wear in earth tones with calligraphy on jackets, pendants and neckpieces.

The two-day TDAP Fashion Show was choreographed by Frieha Altaf with hair and make-up by Saba Ansari of Sabs Salon, backstage management by Production 021 and Hum TV as media partners.
