NOWSHERA: A minor girl of six was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 66-year-old man here at Akora Khattak area.

According to the FIR, the incident took place on Feb 21. The man identified as a resident of Mohalla Sheikhan was apprehended by the area people after they allegedly heard cries of the girl and handed him over to the police. The suspect was later produced in the court of a magistrate who sent him to prison on judicial remand.

An FIR has been registered against him under several sections of Pakistan Penal Code and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Child Protection and Welfare Act.

Talking to Dawn, an official of the Akora Khattak police station claimed that during initial investigation the suspect told the police that he was alone at home when evil thoughts influenced his mind and he dragged the minor girl into his residence from the street.

The official claimed that the suspect had admitted that he had only touched private parts of the child. The victim was initially taken to a local hospital from where she was shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, for medical treatment.

The FIR was registered on the complaint of the victim’s mother who stated that her daughter, a grade-1 student, had gone to school and while returning home the suspect living in the same neighbourhood forcibly took her inside his house.

The man belonged to an influential family of the area and its members had now been reportedly trying to enter into a compromise with the victim’s family.
