KARACHI: At least 100 huts were destroyed in a huge fire in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Thursday afternoon, fire brigade and police officials said.

They added that the blaze broke out in huts in Block-13-B near Gilani Railway Station at around 12:52pm.

Eight fire engines put out the blaze after hectic efforts lasting over three hours, said a fire brigade official.

He said they faced difficulty in accessing the area due to a traffic jam caused by VIP movement at the Expo Centre near Hassan Square.

No loss of life was reported, said the Aziz Bhatti police official.

The cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained.
