Lately, the PM&DC seems to have grown hubristic attitude, overstepping its authority and creating undue hurdles for the hard-working doctors. It is among its duties only to check and ensure that the degrees and the degree-awarding institutions are properly qualified and up to the mark and are genuine, that the degree-holder sticks to his/her ethical and moral practices, and do not violate his Hippocratic oath. The authority to practice a certain discipline is all described and allowed by the degree-awarding university or institution and the PM&DC cannot take away this right from the practitioner except on ethical grounds and not for academic reasons once the PM&DC has recognized that institution. The PM&DC's new regulation requiring doctors to attend 50-hour additional academic classes for renewal of registration every time is unlawful. In any case, all the doctors in their own professional interest do continue to read latest medical literature and they do so regularly, without which they are rejected by their clientele anyway. So why put bureaucratic hurdles in their way as is the PM&DC doing now. Moreover, it is a high usurpation by the PM&DC to continue to charge the doctors a fee every year in the name of renewal of registration. I should advise the doctors to approach the Supreme Court of Pakistan against unlawful acts of the PM&DC.
