BAHAWALPUR: A bomb hoax at government high school, Channigoth, on Saturday created panic forcing the teachers to immediately evacuate hundreds of students from the school.

According to police sources, some people spotted a suspected bag in which something looked wrapped. That caused panic and teachers alerted the police and started evacuating students from the school.

The bomb disposal squad opened the box and found a brick in it.

CHILDREN COMPLEX: Punjab Minister for Cooperatives Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar has said that PC-1 of the children complex and an eye hospital are ready for submission to the Punjab government for approval.

Addressing the convention of the Public Relations Society of Pakistan (PRSP), the minister said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had approved the two projects to be established on Jhangiwali Road adjacent to the civil hospital.

He was confident that with the approval of PC-1, the construction of these two mega projects could be taken in hand in the near future.

He said the chief minister had diverted his attention towards the development of South Punjab and Bahawalpur where a veterinary university was being established while a Danish schools for the poor had already been set up.

Channar said he had recommended to the Punjab government to include the subject of Seraiki in the syllabus of matriculation classes. “On my recommendations, the CM has already appointed 35 lecturers of the Seraiki language to teach the subject in the colleges of South Punjab.”

The minister assured PRSP office-bearers Jam Asghar and Nadeem and others to redress their grievances.

FAREED AMAN MELA: A two-day Khwaja Fareed Aman Mela began at the Craft Bazaar here on Saturday.

The event organised by the coordination of four NGOs including Punjab Lok Sujag was aimed at promoting the culture of Cholistan and Bahawalpur and peace in this area. On the opening day, events included ‘Seraiki Lok Jhoomar’, ‘Shehnai’ , performance of drum beating and theatre.

Jehangir Mukhlas and Asmatullah shed light on the culture of Bahawalpur while folk music was played by Abdul Sattar Tari, Mithoo Waryam, Shaiza Baloch and others.
