TIMERGARA: The newly posted regional police officer, Malakand Division, Azad Khan, on Friday asked people of Lower Dir to extend their cooperation to police in maintenance of peace and control of crimes in the district.

He was addressing a meeting at the Timergara police lines, which was attended by local political leaders, representatives of civil society and police officers.

He said that police couldn’t succeed in maintaining law and order situation without full support of citizens. He appreciated the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for ‘freeing the police of political interference’. He said that recruitment, posting and placement of police officers and SHOs was being made purely on merit. “It is the responsibility of police to gain public support and show the best performance,” the police chief said, adding community policing had been gaining roots among citizens.

The Malakand RPO asked police officers to improve their professional skills through advance trainings. He said the government was committed to police reforms, which he said, were not possible without public support.

QWP senior vice-chairman and former provincial minister Bakht Baidar Khan, ANP’s senior vice-president Zahir Shah Khan, Jamaat-i-islami’s Haji Mohammad Rasool Khan and Syed Sultanat Yar, JUI-F’s Haji Zar Naseeb Khan, PTI Lower Dir president Fakhruz Zaman, former police officer Haq Nawaz Khan and others also spoke on the occasion.

Later, Azad Khan also addressed a police darbar at the Timergara police lines and asked police officers to dedicate themselves for serving the community. He said that ‘thana’ culture could no more exist. He said police should change their behaviour with complainants and general public so that people could realize change in ‘thana’ culture.

JI COMMITTEES:  The Jamaat-i-Islami on Friday announced various committees to check performance of government departments and party’s lawmakers. The announcement was made during a meeting at the Ahyaul Uloom Balambat chaired by district emir Izazul Mulk Afkari.

The JI consultative council chairman Haji Mohammad Rasool Khan, secretary information Malik Sher Bahadar and members of departmental committees attended the meeting.

Talking to journalists Mr Afkari said that people of Dir had voted for Jamaat-i-Islami for resolution to their problems.

DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS: The district council on Friday opened tenders of projects under the annual development programme (ADP) of members of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly.

A function in this regard was held at the district council hall, Balambat chaired by chief coordination officer Sardar Khan Tarani.
