GUJRAT: Police with the district administration will make a four-member ulema board to look into the cases registered against prayer leaders for violation of the Amplifier Act and possession of hate material in the district.
A delegation of clerics, led by Syed Saeed Ahmed Shah Gujrati, also Islamic Ideological Council member, called on Gujrat District Police Officer (DPO) Rai Ijaz Ahmed on Monday and expressed their concern over the registration of cases.
The DPO told the delegation that the administration had planned to constitute a board consisting of one senior cleric each from Barelvi, Deobandi, Ahle Hadith and Shia to probe and submit their recommendations to the local authorities to either pursue a case or quash it. Their recommendations would be taken up by the authorities for a final decision.
A source said the DPO told the delegation the recommendation based on a consensus decision of the board would be considered.
He said he had directed the police officials to register amplifier act related cases only after reeving audio recording of the violation.
