LAHORE: Scores of people belonging to Muridke gathered outside the Punjab Assembly on Monday to protest the killing of a man in their area.

Several hours protest on the leading artery of the city threw traffic out of gear.

Protesters chanted slogans against Sheikhupura district police for not arresting the accused who had murdered their 12 members before the recent murder.

More than 70 relatives of the deceased reached Lahore and after placing the body at Faisal Chowk blocked the traffic. They chanted slogans against Muridke police and demanded early arrest of the accused.

Capital City Police Officer Amin Wains rushed to the spot and called the Sheikhupura district police officer (DPO) to take up the matter. The DPO reached the spot and held negotiations with the protesters who dispersed after his assurance that the killers would be arrested.

Muhammad Ashraf was going to school to drop his children when his rivals shot him dead at 7am. His relatives put the body into a car and reached outside the Punjab Assembly to hold the demonstration.

Inspector General of Punjab Police Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera suspended from service two officers -- the Muridke DSP and the city SHO.

According to an official notification, DSP Khalid Mahmood Tabassum and SHO Muhammad Husain were suspended from service on charges of misconduct and inefficiency.

The officers were also transferred to the central police office with immediate effect.

According to Sheikhupura correspondent, earlier the aggrieved family blocked GT Road near Hadoke for four hours.
