Five killed in blast

DERA MURAD JAMALI: Five people, two of them brothers, were killed after a pickup hit a landmine in Chattar area of Nasirabad district on Monday.

“The pickup, carrying six people, hit the landmine planted on the road, causing an explosion which rocked the Sawan Wah area,” Ghulam Sarwar Abro, an official of the Chattar police station, told Dawn.

Four people were killed on the spot as the pickup blew up, he said.

The two injured were taken to the district hospital in Dera Murad Jamali, where one of them died.

“The other injured is in critical condition and we are trying to save his life,” said Dr Ghafoor Hashmi, an official of the hospital.

The people killed were identified as Syed Salah­uddin Shah, a retired police officer; Syed Yar Mohammad Shah and Syed Ibrahim Shah, brothers; Syed Qurban Shah and Mukhi Lal Chand.

No one claimed responsibility for the blast.
