KARACHI: The entire metropolis with many parts of the country plunged into darkness on Saturday midnight after suspension of power supply from the national grid. The power supply was restored to the city by on Sunday morning.
This is the second time in a couple of months that almost the entire city had plunged into darkness because of tripping of the national grid suspending the power supply to the city following which the KE network also collapsed.
The tripping is said to be caused by ‘environmental causes’. The system trips owing to fog or rains that increases moisture in the atmosphere.
Responding to Dawn queries, a K-Electric spokesperson said that a breakdown occurred in the 500KV transmission line of the National Transmission Despatch Centre that supplied power to the city.
Meanwhile, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement accused the KE management of a biased attitude towards Karachi and urged the prime minister and the federal water and power minister to take notice of it and take action against the “anti-Karachi management of the KE”.
