Six IDPs killed, nine injured in Karak road mishap

KARAK/BUNER: At least six people were killed and nine others injured when a passenger van carrying internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Bannu to Tall area of Hangu fell into a deep ravine in Zorkandao area of Banda Daud Shah tehsil here on Thursday.

Police said that the van driver lost control of his vehicle due to failure of its brake in Zorkandao area of Banda Daud Shah on Kohat-Bannu road and it fell into a deep ravine.

They said that four IDPs from North Waziristan Agency identified as Mulla Jan son of Malay Khan, Zar Kalam son of Nazar Khan, Malal Khan son of Ach Khan and Hakeem Khan son of Nasir Khan were killed on the spot and two others identified as Nawab Rehman son of Mohammad Ayub and Fazlullah son of Rahmatullah succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.

The dead and injured were taken to the tehsil headquarters hospital, Banda Daud Shah, and after initial treatment they were referred to the hospital in Kohat and Khalifa Gul Nawaz postgraduate hospital in Bannu.


Four die in Buner accident


The nine injured included Noor Islam, Mir Wali Khan, Zarbat Khan, Muslimeen, Arjanullah, Dilawar Khan, Hakeem Khan, Rohullah and Baseerullah. Sources said that two of the injured Hakeem Khan and Zareef Khan belonged to Afghanistan, while all others were from North Waziristan Agency. The Banda Daud Shah police shifted the injured to the hospital.

Meanwhile, police sources said that a van going to Kohat had also fallen into the same ravine the other day and only its driver had received serious injuries.

In Buner, four people, including a woman, were killed and as many others wounded in a road accident in Buner on Thursday.

Residents said that a speeding truck (Peshawar Z-7349) collided with a car (DIK 2387) at Leganai turn of Buner. The deceased were identified as Abdul Khanan, Mohammad Salam and Shafaat Bibi of a same family of Nawagai area of Buner and Naseeb Zada of Jaba Leganai. The injured taken to DHQ hospital, Daggar, included Khairunisa, Nadia, Usman and Aleza of Nawagai. Local people retrieved the bodies and injured and shifted them to the hospital. The Jowar police have arrested the truck driver, Rehmat Ali, of Jehanabad and registered a case against him.
